Jaguar Supports RoSPA’s National Accident Prevention Strategy

RoSPA Calls for 'Safer Lives, Stronger Nation'

Jaguar is proud to support and advocate RoSPA’s new campaign, “Safer Lives, Stronger Nation: Our Call for a National Accident Prevention Strategy.”

This important initiative is raising awareness of the rising number of accidental deaths. Accidents claim over 20,000 lives annually, making them the leading cause of preventable deaths in young adults.

RoSPA propose that the National Accident Prevention Strategy be the specific responsibility of an individual minister, ideally as their sole portfolio with authority to attend the Cabinet and the ability to convene cross-departmental committees, meetings or working groups to ensure that accident prevention is treated holistically.

RoSPA’s key findings – as per their full report – include:

  • The accidental death rate has soared by 42% in the last decade.
  • 561,000 people were injured at work in Great Britain in 2022/3, costing individuals, the government, and wider economy over £7 billion annually.
  • The number of lives lost annually due to accidents in the UK has risen by 40% in a decade.
  • Costs to UK businesses reach £6 billion due to lost working days and output.
  • Accidents cost the NHS millions of bed days and almost £6 billion.

This ground breaking report draws on research conducted over the last 6 months by Dr James Broun, Research Manager at RoSPA, for which he built up a unique dataset, bringing together 20 years of accident data from all four nations for the first time.

The report presents a compelling call to action – detailing a strategic path for Government to reverse this trend, saving lives, reducing injuries, and reducing the economic toll of preventable accidents.
